Top 10 Ways to Pass Time On Board Ship

No one understands boredom better than a mariner. When the hard work finishes off in the evening, there is little that a sailor can do to pass time. With no family or friends around and miles and miles of blue ocean surrounding the ship, he cannot go anywhere. So is he doomed to suffer the boredom every day? Absolutely not! So now the question arises; what exactly can he do to get rid of boredom? There is more than one way to pass time on board:
Games are not just for children
And whoever said the contrary, was clearly an old drab fellow. Now by games I certainly do not imply that you start skipping ropes, but games that are enjoyable and can be played by adults as well. Card games are very popular with grown-ups especially games like Poker and Blackjack. If the facility is available on board ,then Ping Pong and swimming races can also be quite fun. One thing very popular on board is the Karaoke Machine. For people who can sing it’s good but for people who cannot it’s even better! Karaoke keeps you entertained and also provides a few laughs at other’s expense!

It’s Movie Time
Everyone knows that watching movies is a good way to pass a couple of hours. So what can you do to make those couple of hours even more enjoyable? Watch it with the whole crew, instead of watching it alone in your cabin. Even the dreariest movies come alive when there is a whole crowd around. Make every evening a movie time and bring out the pop-corns and colas to accompany the fun time.
Fishing
Not many consider fishing as a fun activity, but on board ship it’s a whole different scene. Whenever the ship docks at a port, fishing ropes are brought out and baits are prepared in full swing. Fishing with friends and crew is a fun activity that not only keeps you occupied but also rewards you in the end with the opportunity to brag and eat your catch!
Have a Party!
On board you don’t need a reason to party. The need to pass time in a fun way is reason enough. Good food along with a few party games thrown in is an additional bonus of course. Parties are not just a good way to pass time but also a great way to get to know your colleagues better. Of course having a party every day is not possible but whenever they happen, they are always fun

Reading
When all else fails you can turn back to good old faithful reading.  Not just for sailors, reading has been a very pleasant way to pass time for just about anybody.  A book can take make the boring moments exciting and enjoyable. So try and carry as many books with you as you possibly can. Also it is a better idea to carry thrillers and mysteries rather than classic works because they are not the kind of books you would want to read after a tiring day at work.
Exercising is the way to go
An hourly workout  will be a fun activity to indulge in everyday as not only will it keep you fit, but also help you sleep better at night. Whether done at a gym or in your cabin, exercise is the best way to establish an interesting routine.
Shore Leave
Whenever the ship docks at a port try and move out of the ship to see the new port. However small the port is, it’s always interesting to see a new place. Also an outing once in a while may change the lonesome mood and divert the attention to more fun activities.

Enjoy the nature
The view that you get from the deck on the vast ocean is unmatchable by anything. So make it a point to enjoy you morning or afternoon cup of tea on the deck, watching the sunrise or sunset. It’ll help you calm your nerves and take away the work related stress.
Discover something new
Try finding a new hobby or an interest of yours. You’ll be surprised to find that you really possessed a skill you were never aware of. Learning new things like languages and games like Chess can also take those boring hours away from your hands. Try and learn an instrument to play. Or better still try and learn how to give a haircut, because with months of uncut hair growth, your newly acquired skill could win you some fans!
Project Hour
Before coming on board make sure you have a project or an aim that will keep you busy for a few months. For example a task like losing weight can take a lot of time and if you have decided to do it you might follow a routine to achieve that goal. So not only will you be able to pass your spare time nicely, you’ll have a body to brag about as well.
